I’ve always heard about mechanical keyboards, how cool they were and how fast you could type on them. I remember having typed on those huge IBM keyboards when I was a kid, but at that time I was more concerned about the games I was playing than the keyboard specs…
I like trying new things, so I had to get one of these beasts. I did some research and found that there were quality chinese keyboards with the famed german Cherry MX keys, and that they were relatively cheap. After reading some reviews, I decided to buy a Nooppo Choc Mid with Cherry MX Blue keys, from eBay, for US$107.99, including shipping (by they way, here is the awesome seller, who I found on a hardware forum).

When the thing arrived, I felt really surprised… First, it weights a ton, at least when compared to a “normal” keyboard. Even though I bought the cheapest mechanical keyboard I found, it has a great build quality and it feels sturdy. The noise is really cool, though it’s annoying when you want silence. The “status” leds are way too bright, but they don’t work on Linux, so that’s OK (I can turn then on via command line, but they don’t “bind” to the Caps|Scrol Lock click event).
I’ve been using it for around a year, and the overall experience is great. I still want to buy a better keyboard, but this one is good enough for now. ;)
PS: I write in a really strange way, lol.
